Rodman Pictures Pty Ltd commenced business full time in the early months of 2013. Rod Manikam the Director of Rodman Pictures having had previous acting experience throughout the northern part of the world has turned his talents to producing feature movies in Western Australia utilising the vast unseen talents that are available in his own state.
Rod plans on capturing the audience with his feature films mixing up the genres and showcasing the local talent and locations to a world-wide audience.
Rodman Pictures is currently forecasting 1 to 2 major feature films each year and distributing them throughout Northern America, Canada, the European Continent, Asia, Africa and Australia.
Rod Manikam was born in Penang, Malaysia. His passion with the movie industry started at a young age and his involvement in filmmaking began as a teenager. Always interested in the arts, he qualified as a graphic designer in 1990, graduating as a chef shortly after.
Rod comes from a family of musicians and teachers, his father Edward is a now retired renowned musician and teacher in Malaysia, his mother Marina Mangram is also a retired teacher. Rod’s sister Adeline is a professional musician in Zurich, Switzerland. His nephew William Marty composes the music for Rod’s film productions. Rod himself plays music but his main interest is film.
After traveling extensively throughout Europe and the UK, he set his sights on Australia where he decided this was the place to set down his roots and continue to pursue his passion – acting and producing. In 2013, Rod founded Rodman Pictures, firstly in Australia and then in Malaysia.
This production company has completed short films and major motion pictures and has projects underway including the latest movie Moorditj Wirn. In 2016 he was granted a Datoship both in Malaysia and Indonesia for his commitment to Asian and International cinema.
In 2007 Rod uplifted and moved to Perth, Western Australia where he was later nationalized in 2011 and is now a proud Malaysian Australian.
Darryl Westrup is Rod's personal assistant and wears many hats within the company, with his main roles being that of Rod's personal assistant and co-producer of the latest produced movies. Although not from a acting background, Darryl bring to the business his expertise in marketing and has also revealed his natural ability to act and also write stories.
Darryl has ventured through life starting his career at the age of 17 as a soldier in the Australian Army as an engineer. After travelling the world for a year he returned and started a new career in oilfield industry, honing his skills in materials and logistics. In 1998 he decided to venture out on his own and created his own website development business, which he is still operating today.
Darryl joined Rodman Pictures as an actor in his and Rod's first feature film "Wild Justice" in 2013. It was during this film that he got a taste for the industry, and already being a business owner he witnessed the passion of his friend of some 10 years, and after talks with Rod, he joined the team as a valuable and key member of the company.
Darryl shares Rod's passion and business ethics, together they are taking Rodman Pictures forward in leaps and bounds and making feature films with quality, in turn giving the West Australian film industry a new life and belief that just because you start small, it doesn't mean you can't grow big, all it takes is passion and belief in yourself, but at the same time staying humble.
